Manny Pacquiao, Rizin CEO expect Floyd Mayweather rematch in 2024

It seems like famous boxers Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather might fight again in 2024, under the mixed martial arts promotion Rizin Fighting Federation.

On Sunday morning during Rizin 45, Pacquiao along with the CEO of RIZN said they expect to see a repeat match with Mayweather some time in 2024. No specifics were given about when, weight group or if it will be an amateur show or professional fight.

Sakakibara asked, "Can you please have a fight with Floyd Mayweather next year?".

"Thank you a lot for asking me here again," Pacquiao said. "I apologize for when we promised to fight this year, but like Sakakibara told us, I will see you in Japan later on with an important battle against Floyd Mayweather." I’m excited for that. Thank you for all the help in Rizin, and thank you Sakakibara."

Mayweather fought two times under the Rizin name in his show bouts, after he stopped being a professional boxing fighter. Mayweather fought against a Japanese kickboxer called Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018. Then, he took on another fighter from MMA named Mikuru Asakura in an exhibition boxing match in 2022.

Now 46 years old, Mayweather last appeared in June. He fought John Gotti III but it ended as no contest after a big fight that involved both teams turned into chaos.

Pacquiao stopped boxing for money in September 2021 after he lost his WBA title to Yordenis Ugas. He's fought one show match since, beating YouTuber DK Yoo in a decision last December 2022. Lately, Pacquiao was in the news for MMA after UFC star Conor McGregor again challenged him to a boxing match. Pacquiao is now signed to Rizin.
